1. BASIC SYSTEM
The basic tapping system of all 3 series Is of Slide-Relay design. Nut blanks fed from hopper to chutes where inserted into guides (Having 120 degrees groove in case or hexagonal nuts. Type of grip depends on machine type.) By means pusher and bite revolving taps. As soon as nut blanks bite the taps there arises torque in guides which prevent turning of nuts. Then guides mounting base (guide seals which built-in linear ball bearings) slides in longitudinal direction of the tap.
Thus, ideal tapping jobs with natural thrust force by means of springs, where no pushing or pulling force to blank of thread is required, can be realized in accordance with pitches.
Because of unemployment of pitch cam, consistent and reliable biting is assured irrespective to front or back of nut and variation of core diameters of nut.
2. GRIPPING SYSTEM
N SERIES
The most simple and efficient V Groove (120) standard type is suitable for hex nut.
V groove (90) standard Type is suitable for squire nuts. The groove shaped Guides (jaws) stop nut from turning and guide nut toward tapping direction.
F SERIES
This is the most simple gripping system that assures inclination free (bearing surface) tapping which is imperative for flange nut. The standard type grips across flats of nut taking bearing surface of flange as the criteria to stop turning. In case specially high T.l.R. accuracy is required, CP type is available. CP type grips nut completely and enables to tap either side, flange side or crown side.
R SERIES
This is suitable for cylindrical, cone of flanged nuts. spilt chuck is actuated by hydraulics and grips nut. Depending on nut shape, nut can be gripped at shank or at flange.
3. HOPPER SYSTEM
The hopper system is the important part for automation of small lot production, increase operation efficiency and reduction of tapping cost. The following 3 types of hoppers are available.
STANDARD HOPPER
For such nuts height (thickness) is smaller than outside dimensions.
ROTARY HOPPER
For such nuts height (thickness) of which is bigger than outside dimensions.
PARTS FEEDER
For such nuts that can not be fed properly by above hoppers.
4. OPERATION
"SHIMAZU" design twin nut tapper bas been evaluated as one of most easy-to-operate nut tappers, and the new version tapper has been further improved and can be described as extreme in easy operation. The simple mechanisms are employed in transmission of revolution (by timing belt and v-belt), in thrust force of pusher device to push in nut blank to tap (by means of spring) and in back/forth movement of pusher (by cam). Replacement of taps does not require any tools. It is "one-touch" job. Replacement needs only a few seconds when thread diameter and/or nut material are/is changed, just change revolution of main spindle (tap rpm) by means of built-in speed variator and thrust force of pusher by changing spring. Replacement tine is less than 20 seconds. Replacement of size pats from one size to another can be achieved with in 5 seconds.
5. PERFORMANCE
The machine assures reliable accuracy at the high speed operation and increased tap life. The suitable cutting speed and tap rpm to bring high quality nuts and long life that SHIMAZU recommends from ample experience.
6. SAFETY
Revolving and moving portions are all fully covered and safety for operator is perfect. On request, it is also possible to supply such machine that is stopped when cover is opened.
7. DURABILITY
Linear bearings for GUIDE SEAL (moving bases) and PUSHER ARMS are all double mounted. Accuracy, rigidity, and durability have been further increased. Sleeves installed in spindles keep fine alignment of tap. Simple mechanisms and fine parts assure trouble free operation for many years
8. WORKING CONDITIONS
Newly developed double covers have completely eliminated scattering of cutting oil. For resetting after trouble and replacing size parts, all that operator must do is to turn covers down. Thus operability is excellent.
Transmission of machine revolution is all made by means of belt and back/forth movement of pusher is actuated by cam. This assures noise-free operation. Chips brought from tapping operation are separated from oil by magnetic chip-separator.
Small particle that can not be removed by separator is collected by magnetic plate, so that cleaning cutting oil is always supplied. The tapper assures clean factory and gives comfortable jobs to operator.
9. CONVERSION OF MACHINE TYPE
Machine model can be converted into different one by changing some parts of the machine.

10. ABNORMAL OPERATION DETECTOR
The machine is equipped with 3 sensors which correctly detect biting position of thread cutting, and whenever abnormal conditions arise the machine is designed to stop and alarm lamp turns on. Abnormal position is indicated by lamp.
All abnormal condition except abnormal cutting torque are detected. More than 2,000 sets of detector have been supplied with SHIMAZU tapping machines in Japanese automobile industries, and have been contributing to zero-defect nut production.
11. PRESET COUNTER
Tap life is preset in advance, and when production quantity reaches the preset number, the machine is designed to stop. Tap is to be replaced by operator.
In SUPER-"N" Series, there are 2 type.
1. Standard Type (Cam Type)
2. Full Automatic Type (Pneumatic Type)
12. SUPER-NA / NFA / NRA
Main Motor is independent. Namely 2 main motors are installed on one machine and each motor can be run independently (left and right). This means that even if one spindle stops due to a jam or other trouble, the other spindle keeps running. If a jam takes place in front of jaw, the machine automatically discharge it and machine resumes operation automatically. To eliminate idle time, biting pressure is actuated by springs and cycle, this type machine assures 1.6 times more production than machine which decides stroke cycle by cam. (At the same RPM) This would be particularly interesting when than tapping hot forged nuts.
